i need a program to Learn Guitar?

i need to learn guitar but dont know which program to download because i cant read music is there 1 available or will i have to learn to read music first

ultimate guitar tabs is a mess. it’s done by MANY PEOPLE who don’t know how to transcribe songs correctly, so there’s a TON of bad information there. (not to be offensive, but it’s done by beginners – the same people who USE it) I’m always correcting/rewriting my students’ tabs in class; often times, i’m just crumpling them up and throwing them in the garbage. The best tabs are published….period. I learned alot as a teen in guitar magazines. you KNOW those tabs are right on. i’d suggest going to the bookstore or anywhere they sell mags and picking a few out that have songs you like transcribed.

SECOND: if you can, get a teacher. i’m self-taught to a point, but when i realized i was never going to play like metheny/montgomery/or even jimmy page without having some “doors opened” professionally by a good instructor, i just had to go. (that was after about 2 years of self-teaching; right about the time i realized i wanted to major in jazz guitar in college)

also, try out a program to get started like that guy said. that would be a good way of getting in until your questions start getting more and more sophisticated. at least you’ll know what you’re doing is “right.” (as in, not full of bad info like many internet sites and youtube lessons give)
have FUN! this is a great thing.

PS – you don’t necessarily need to know how to read music…..and a guitar teacher ISN’T necessarily going to teach you that…..he/she is going to get you PLAYING first. if you express interest in reading, they’ll help you, but usually after you get some nice sounding tunes coming out of your hands FIRST. ….and who the hell’s thumbs-downing everyone? lol.
