How to make good guitar solos with guitar scales /?

I know the major scale and understand the root notes, but when some chords solo effort that seems to aspire. Am I missing something, or I just know more riffs. Not a guitar teacher.

Alone rarely follow larger scale, for obvious reasons once you hear it sounds. Tend to focus the minor third, fifth, seventh and scale.
